Dubious Honor - "Tail Gunner"

“The class of 1968 has a new tail-gunner – the last man to graduate. Chuck Corley, CS13/CS23, completed the journey to a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering in December, 2024. This eleven-year quest started while Chuck was still employed by NXP Semiconductors in Austin, TX, and completed with a dissertation on radiation effects in microprocessors after retirement. Chuck is the oldest student to earn a PhD from the University of Texas at Austin . Chuck thanks his wife Linda and classmates Art Miller, Vince Rusinak, and Bob Denny for their encouragement and support.”

From Chuck: To my surprise, the university picked up on the idea and, in association with the annual May graduation events, has now officially published an article on their website acknowledging me as the oldest student to earn a Phd IN ANY DISCIPLINE for the ENTIRE UNIVERSITY! I don’t think that even entitles me to free coffee anywhere, but it does seem like a novel distinction. Click on the picture below for the link.
