From Deadman's Trail

The Moseley Family 2010 Holiday Letter

Cover

The snow has finally started to fall (quite late this year) and we're getting ready to put the Leg Lamp in the front window. The hiking has been pretty good this fall. The fox is back begging for an egg almost every day, the beavers are cutting aspen, the brook trout are spawning, and the bears are all tucked in for the winter (yay! we don't have to be so careful about the garbage). And now even we are turning our attention inside--the yard and Airstream projects will have to wait quietly for spring. The one thing we're hoping for this winter is enough snow so that we can use our snow shoes to go camping on the hiking trails up behind the house.

The kayaks opened up a new world for us in Canada, Tomales Bay, and Lake Powell--we think we'll do even more next year. In the spring we made a loop through the SW to see familiar haunts and friends from high school and Vietnam. In our NW loop we really enjoyed friends in Reno and new friends in Sonoma. To cap it all off Roger stopped off at Burning Man (yes, that is a 35' praying mantis), then we wound up the trip with five days at the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta. Call if you're just dying to know about a specific photo.

We've narrowed the hunt down considerably for land on which to build our adobe, as if we don't have enough projects already. We've decided we like it here. If we need to be anywhere else for an extended period, like Port Townsend, that's what the long Airstream is for. We want to take some major trips to the east in the next couple years, maybe a loop SE and one NE. We haven't been to Oshkosh for a few years, either, and there's still a sunset in Key West that awaits us. So, you easterners aren't necessarily safe.

We're happy, except for the fact that after many decades of avoiding drugs, the doctors are now pushing them on us. This does not seem fair, so we continue to think and act like we're under 30, as we know most of you do, too. After three previous attempts, Roger finally got the Shiprock photo he'd been after--just drive all night, park next to the highway to observe the rules of the Navajos, and get up before sunrise--piece of cake for a youngster. Marty is cooking up a storm--we're surprised we don't need a wider wardrobe twice a year. She's still the motivator, organizer, fixer, caretaker, cleaner, and all around Girl Friday for this house. Roger is the designer, builder, sous-chef de cuisine, and general layabout retired guy. Until next year...

Ciao, Love, and Happy Holidays....

Being the bah humbug that I am, I decided to go electronic this year. It's a test. You can neither pass nor fail this test, you can only make snide remarks regarding content. Be patient, it takes 8-10 seconds for a page to load the first time you visit a new page. There are six pages of photos, so you could be here all day.

Each of the small photos has an embedded comment that comes up if you hover for a second or so. Some even have links if you click on them--not necessarily recommended, but perhaps useful if you take an interest in a particular photo.

ho, ho, ho,
Roger
