Merry Christmas,

Sorry for the late Christmas wishes…things all got pushed to the last minute and we found that we work slower than when we were 20 (Ya think!!!).

As usual it was a busy year. We were enjoying Dick’s new job as Director of Youth Initiatives for the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association and Director of the National Winter Sports Education Foundation while lounging around our house in Park City. Unfortunately/Fortunately we had an offer on our house with a request to move out NOW. Susie became the Whirling Dervish and had things thrown out/packed up/shipped/stored in a few days and we were...homeless.

Fortunately our friends, the Coopers, took pity on us and invited us to stay in their house. As guests we finally decided that it was time to move on and made the short list up. We made our first foray out through Las Vegas and St. George Utah, but got stuck in St. George. So we decide to take it slooooow …Bought a lot in a week, hired an architect and a builder and we were off and running. Had a nice interlude when our AF friends from Viet Nam, Nancy and Rich Bohman, came to visit and Rich competed in the Javelin at the Huntsman International Senior Games. Rich won a Gold medal and will come back next year for more!

So as to not make building easy, we had four 100-year floods in St. George in 3 weeks. 3.5 inches of rain in 35 minutes caused a mud flood through our lot. No problem as we are now building a Venetian Canal around the lot (bring your boats). As you can see from the picture above we are still moving ahead. The place will be great when it is done next spring. The area is truly beautiful and you can hike and bike almost every day. Susie adds in a bit of “gym rat” to the rest of the day when she is not painting the local landscape.

The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association piled on “extra” things for Dick, including managing the Olympic programs and building a funding Campaign. The good news is that we will go to Sochi, Russia for the 2014 Olympics (and we like Beluga Gold Vodka!).

In the midst of selecting things for the house construction we squeaked in a visit to Maui with Dick’s cousin, Dick and Marge Pashley. It was the best vacation that we have had in a long time. Thanks to them we tasted the best Cab’s that California has to offer and will meet up next time in Napa. I think that wraps up the year.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,

Susie and Dick
