2012 was another interesting year in Henderson
for the Pat Russell's.
FAMILY NEWS:
Son Jim (43), Michelle, Joe (17), Katie (14) and Steve (11) are still
in Tempe AZ. Joe is in the 11th grade. He attends Brophy HS (a Catholic
boy's school in downtown Phoenix) and did very well as a debater at
the National Forensics competition getting 6th place. Katie is in her
first year at the Catholic girls school, Xavier, and loves sports.
Steve attends 6th grade at Our Lady of Mt Carmel and is an avid sports
fan, especially soccer. Son Andy (39), Spon, Naomi (5.5) and Jonah (2.5)
live in San Ramon, CA. Naomi is growing up fast and is doing well in
kindergarten and little brother Jonah attends a day care
school and has become a real talker. We were pleased to have visits
from both the Tempe and San Ramon Russell's as well as making trips
to see them this past year. Daughter Kathy lives in our old house in
Las Vegas and likes her job at the cancer clinic where she is a primary
care nurse for one of the doctors at the clinic. Pats brother
Mike held a 90th Birthday party for Mom Russell which was well attended
by friends and relatives coming in from all over the world. Pat has
maintained the Class of 68 Academy Website (www.usafa68.org)
for six years now and is currently providing support for the upcoming
45th Class Reunion in 2013. He also maintains websites for the Britton
Cousins (www.brittoncousins.org),
his High School Class (www.bghs64.org)
and the local USAFA Association of Graduates Chapter (www.usafaclasses.org/lasvegas).
We just returned from a 15-day cruise to Hawaii. It was fantastic! More
cruises to come.
VETTE UPDATE:
The LeMans blue 2006 Corvette is almost 7-years old and currently has
82,000-miles on it. Of course, Pat is very interested in the new, redesigned,
2014 Corvette coming out next year, but will probably wait for the 2015
model. We continue to be involved with the Las Vegas Corvettes Association
(LVCA). Pat has been the Club's webmaster, for five years, (www.vegasvettes.com),
and continues to lead the Club's support for the two 90-mile open road
races up in Ely, NV in May and September. Besides the social and driving
events we enjoyed two multi-day Club activities. One was in Lancaster
CA, which included a visit to Edwards AFB, where we ate at the former
Officers Club and saw where our old quarters once stood. The second
club trip to Utah, Wyoming and Idaho, we were able to take a side trip
to visit with Madeleine Murdock in Pinedale, WY. Along with all our
friends in LVCA, we continue to enjoy the social, driving and charity
events Vegas Vettes puts on and were pleased that Pat was selected as
The Most Active Member Overall for 2011. By the way, how
about handing your GrandSon the keys to the Corvette and telling him
its time for a driving lesson! Joe was ecstatic.
OUR HOME:
We are enjoying our place in Henderson more all the time. Our neighborhood
is extremely quiet, yet convenient. Nita continues working on setting
up the place - with the latest effort getting more pictures up. We had
a 100-foot long retaining wall and a 12-foot gate installed on the east
side of the house which gained us more than 800 sq ft of usable property
and enabled Pat to construct (with brother Mikes help) a 16 sq
ft patio cover for an outside work area. We enjoy having visitors and
guests to stay - we have a nice guest room. If you are planning a trip
to Las Vegas call and come and visit us!
Wishing you a memorable Holiday season!
