The Russell Family 2024 Christmas Letter

2024   Merry Christmas     2024

We remain healthy, and so blessed that our children and grandchildren are all well. It's hard to believe that we are completing our 15th year in our Henderson home. The Rivian electric pickup has been a great experience. Pat drove it to Evanston WY to attend a friend's funeral and had fun with it in over eight inches of snow. In May, up to Reno for grandson Steve's graduation from the University of Nevada Reno. It was a treat for us, since Jim, Fran, Kathy, Katie, Joe and wife Danni, and Fran's son John were all there. Steve now joins brother Joe and sister Katie as college graduates. Our big trek came in June when we drove the Rivian to the middle of Nebraska for the biannual Britton Cousin's Reunion in Taylor NE. Taking your time along the interstate highways in an electric vehicle is ok, but in the middle of rural Nebraska it was more of a challenge. Fortunately where we were staying in Burwell, the city park had some Recreational Vehicle spaces equipped with 240 volt outlets that both RVs and EVs can use. The 2021 Corvette Convertible remains completely trouble free and is driven in autocross events and to Cars & Coffee meets. In July, Pat was able to spend a few days with Jim and Fran and also attend high school classmate Chuck Giasson's funeral and burial at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia. Kathy took us out to dinner for our 56th anniversary on September 21st. And in October, Pat flew to Pensacola FL for the 366th Fighter Wing "The Gunfighters" Reunion in Pensacola FL.

Daughter Kathy is still working near us as a hospice nurse and taking care of her 19 year old cat, Daphne. She had a whirl wind trip over Thanksgiving to Europe with her brother Jim, sister-in-law Fran and Fran's siblings. They spent time in London, Amsterdam, Normandy, and Paris especially Disneyland before coming home. Andy, daughter-in-law Spon and their children: Naomi (17) a HS senior this year, Jonah (14) in 9th and Vance (almost 9) in third - are all well. They have been able to take some family trips - like visiting Ireland and a Disney cruise in the Caribbean. We were so pleased that they will be coming to spend Christmas with us. Son Jim, and wife Fran in Annandale VA, when not working - are traveling - checking items off their 'Bucket List' and to see family. Grandson Joe is busy as a member of Senator Mark Kelley's staff, and wife Danni recently got a position with the Department of Homeland Security. Granddaughter Katie is with the US Dept of Agriculture in Juneau AK and remains quite the sportswoman. This May, again using her Great-grandfather Jim Russell's 270 Winchester Model 70, she shot a black bear. Grandson Steve is now working in Reno as a broker for ITS Logistics.

If you are planning a trip to the Las Vegas area - call and come visit!

Wishing you a memorable Holiday season!
