Garry's Update - CAS Meeting 13 January 2010

January 13, 2010

Classmates,

Gene Rose was kind enough to attend the Class Advisory Senate this past week as I was not available. Please see his notes that follow.

Garry---went to the meeting. About 7 or 8 senators present (few came in late) and about 10-12 on the phone. So, about half the grad classes were represented.

Most of the meeting was to discuss the new agreement between the endowment and the AOG---Gen Rokke represented the Endowment and T Thompson represented the AOG. It is all "sweet harmony" at this point--but my opinion is time will tell the story and it is too early to know the final chapter at this point. In any case, they seem to be on the same page and working out the details in a professional manner.

Gen Rokke was very impressive and I am sure what he said will be in the minutes.

Only real Senate business was a discussion of length of office for senate officers---the consensus seemed to be for 2 years so I suspect that will show up in the new bylaws or whatever you call your internal operating procedures.

At the end, Mike Moser from '73 put out a push to support the (NCLS National Character and Leadership Symposium) at the Academy from 17-19 Feb. They are looking for participants and he will send a presentation to all the Senators. Mike also mentioned your name and said the 2 of you and at least one other were trying to find better ways for the senators to get info out to their classes. There ensued a discussion of using social networking as a vehicle to accomplish that end and further discussion will be on the agenda for the next meeting of the senate.

About it. I am sure the minutes will cover the details of the discussion once you get them. Most of the AOG/Endowment arrangement was covered well in the last issue of Checkpoints.
